This Campbell project began in the side yard: a bare concrete slab along the house wall. It now has a stepping-stone walkway with pebble borders that leads to an outdoor shower, beside a horizontal wood-slat privacy screen. Drag the slider on the cover photo to compare the before and after.
In the backyard, a light gray paver patio with a darker border wraps around the space. It curves past round stone seat walls built around the palm trees, and a stone-faced planter wall runs along the dark privacy fence. An artificial turf lawn and play area sit beside the patio, and a louvered pergola shades a lounge with a fire table next to the pool.
The darker border outlines every curve of the patio, which gives the lighter field of pavers a clean edge. The stepping stones, pebbles and turf soften the hardscape, while low path lights along the side yard and a lamp post by the patio light the way after dark.
Paver surfaces like these are built the way we build all of our paver work: excavation, a geotextile, a Class 2 base compacted in layers to 98%, bedding sand, a border set on concrete and polymeric sand in the joints. The full sequence is on our hardscape page.
